Enginn dans á rósum … Nei, það er enginn dans á rósum þetta puð! Ég hef alltaf ímyndað mér að líf listamannsins yrði auðveldara með árunum, með gráu hárunum, með reynslu og þekkingu, en mér finnst það reyndar bara þvert á móti. Sem fyrr eru þó allskonar verkefni á vinnuborðinu, sum hafa lent í vandræðalegri frestun, sum gengið á afturfótum, sum eru langtímaverkefni, önnur eru ný af nálinni.

Í dag er Valentínusardagur, en rósirnar eru ekki gerðar í tilefni af þessum degi elskenda, þær birtast hinsvegar vonandi (í röð og reglu) í nýrri bók sem er í vinnslu. Og þá er rétt að minna á það að í dag er alþjóðlegur dagur bókagjafa (International Book Giving Day) sem væri vit í að taka upp: þá mætti færa ástvinum góða bók í tilefni dagsins, en merkisdagurinn er einkum ætlaður sem hvatning til fólks um að gefa börnum bækur. Það er aldrei of mikið af þeim dögum.

Not a bed of roses … I have always imagined that the artist’s life would get easier over the years, with all the gray hairs, with experience and knowledge, but in fact I feel it is just the opposite. And I am not referring to bad sight and arthritis, bad as that is. Anyways, there are all kinds of projects on my working table, some have been embarrassingly delayed, some have not worked out at all, some are long-term projects, others are new. Yes, maybe I just feel like a silly mouse dancing on the edge of the hat of a … something-something furry.

The roses were not made for the day, Valentine’s day, but will hopefully end up in a new book. Celebrating Valentine’s day is quite new in Iceland, traditionally other days celebrate love and friendship in Iceland: Konudagur (Woman’s/Wife’s Day), Bóndadagur (Man’s/Husband’s Day) 🔗 and Sumardagurinn fyrsti (First Day of Summer) 🔗. I would rather point out that today is the International Book Giving Day, and it would be a splendid idea to pick up that trend: to give a loved one a book – especially children since the day is “Devoted to instilling a lifelong love of reading in children and providing access to books for children in need, Book Giving Day calls on volunteers to share their favourite book with a young reader. Although the holiday originated in the UK, book lovers around the world now join in the celebrations every year.”  #bookgivingday
