♦ FöstudagsmyndinDalalæðan fór víða í gærkvöldi og haustið er svo greinilega í nánd. Fyrr um daginn var ég á Hofsósi og naut blíðunnar í Skagafirði.

♦ Photo Friday: Above: foggy evening at the farm yesterday. Below: Earlier in the day I was in Hofsós, Skagafjörður, enjoying beautiful weather: calm, warm and sunny.

25. ágúst 1943 | Bill Holm

♦ Skáldið Bill Holm dúkkaði ítrekað upp í hugann í vikunni, en einkum í dag, svo ég ákvað að fletta upp fæðingardeginum. 25. ágúst 1943. Hann hefði sem sagt orðið 70 ára í dag. Bill Holm var ógleymanlegur maður í alla staði, en leiðir okkar lágu saman í því magnaða plássi Hofsósi og ég teiknaði kort fyrir síðustu bók hans, Windows of Brimnes: An American in Iceland, sem kom út árið 2007. Bill Holm lést árið 2009.

♦ Poet Bill Holm, whom I met several times in the magical village of Hofsós, would have turned seventy today – if I’m right. His singing voice kept coming to my mind last week, but particularly today, so I looked up his birthday: August 25th 1943. An unforgettable man. I played a very small part in his last book when I drew maps for Windows of Brimnes: An American in Iceland (2007). Sadly, Bill Holm died in 2009.

Here is one of his poems, a short one, with a long title:

Some countries, by virtue of harsh geography and the absence of trees, are deprived of their company

In Iceland
No boxelder bugs

Hungry birds
Lonesome houses

No frogs
Either

Silent water
All night

– Bill Holm (1943 – 2009)
