♦ Bókaútgáfa: Á degi læsis, 8. september, kom út bókin Nesti og nýir skór – Úrval úr íslenskum barnabókum, sem IBBY á Íslandi gefur út í samvinnu við Forlagið. Bókin er safn sagna, kvæða og mynda frá ýmsum tímum. Útgáfan hefur þá metnaðarfullu sérstöðu að allir nemendur í 1. bekk grunnskóla á Íslandi fá Nesti og nýja skó að gjöf og boð um að sækja eintakið sitt á almenningsbókasafn í sínu næsta nágrenni.

Textarnir eru afar ólíkir og myndefnið fjölbreytt, en útkoman vegleg, forvitnileg og aðlaðandi bók. Forkólfar framtaksins hjá IBBY-samtökunum mega vera stoltir af verkinu. Ritstjórar voru Sólveig Ebba Ólafsdóttir og Þorbjörg Karlsdóttir fyrir hönd IBBY og Sigþrúður Gunnarsdóttir fyrir hönd Forlagsins.

Höfundar efnis í bókinni eru hátt á fjórða tug og gáfu allir leyfi fyrir notkun mynda og texta án endurgjalds. Ég er þess heiðurs aðnjótandi að eiga eina sögu í þessari fallegu bók, en það er sagan Eldrisinn úr bókinni Sex Ævintýri.

Ég hvet alla sem eiga eða þekkja börn í 1. bekk grunnskóla að minna á þessa góðu gjöf, aðstoða við að sækja bókina í næsta bókasafn og njóta þess, með eiganda bókarinnar, að lesa um gamla vini og kynnast öðrum nýjum. Á bókakápu segir: „Þetta eru uppáhaldssögur íslenskra krakka frá síðustu öldum.“ Ég óska IBBY til hamingju með heillavænlegt og bitastætt framlag í þágu læsis og bóklestrar á Íslandi.

♦ Book release: On September 8th, International Literacy Day, this book was released: Nesti og nýir skór. The title referries to a phrase from the old folk tales when heading towards the an adventure and packing up with: “new shoes and supplies”. The book is a collection of Icelandic stories and illustrations, poems and rhymes from old folk tales to newer stories. The book is a gift to all Icelandic children starting their 1st year in school – a grand and ambitious gesture from IBBY Iceland, who run the project and published the book in collaboration with Forlagið publishing.

I am honored to be one of the about 40 authors / illustrators in the book – who all gave their work to the project. My story Eldrisinn (The Fire Giant – from the book Six Fairy Tales) along with illustrations was selected for the book. The children (age 5-6) will collect their copy of book at the public library nearest to them. To some of them, this may be the first visit to a library and perhaps their first own „grown-up“ story book. These weeks are truly exciting for the young students, they are starting school and will hopefully get read stories to from a book that contains, according to the cover text: “a treasure of stories, poem and pictures … Icelandic children’s favourite stories from past centuries.”
