BÓKVERK: Textílbókverkasýningin SPOR | TRACES er sumarsýning Heimilisiðnaðarsafnsins á Blönduósi í sumar og þar sýni ég bókverk ásamt samstarfskonum í Bókverkafélaginu ÖRKUM en hópurinn hefur staðið fyrir og tekið þátt í margvíslegum bókverkasýningum hérlendis og erlendis. Gestir okkar á sýningunni á Blönduósi eru fimm erlendar textíllistakonur sem allar hafa dvalið í gestavinnustofu Textílmiðstöðvar Íslands á Blönduósi. Verkin vísa í íslenskar textílhefðir, vefnað, útsaum, jurtalitun og fleira, auk þess að vera innblásin af náttúru Íslands, menningu kvenna og sögu.

Heimilisiðnaðarsafnið á Blönduósi er falin perla í safnaflórunni, en það er ákveðin opinberun að kynna sér handverk og listiðnað fyrri tíma og margt sem vekur aðdáun og kemur á óvart í safninu. Um SPORGÖNGU: Í bókverkinu er texti saumaður í þykkan handgerðan pappír, ljóð sem ég tileinka formæðrunum. Þar hugsa ég til þeirra sem á undan mér hafa gengið, um sporaslóðina sem er löngu horfin og yfirgróin. Engu að síður er auðvelt að skynja sporgöngu áa sinna þegar gengið er um í náttúru og landslagi sem lítið kann að hafa breyst í tímans rás. Ljóðið er í senn óður til landsins og forfeðranna, ekki síst formæðra sem unnu og spunnu alla þræði lífsins.

BOOK ART: Along with my colleagues in ARKIR Book Arts Group I planned and prepared the textile book art exhibition SPOR | TRACES in the Textile Museum in the village Blönduós in North-west Iceland. ARKIR exhibit a collection of artists books all related to the themes of textiles and traditions – referring to knitting, sowing, weaving, embroidery, herbal dyeing and more, as well as the landscape and the history and culture of women in Iceland. We also invited a group of textile artists from abroad, who have all stayed in the guest studio of the Icelandic Textile Center in Blönduós.

The Textile museum in Blönduós is somewhat a hidden gem. It is a revelation to get to learn about the handicrafts and art industry of the past that can be found there, many things that come as a surprise.The exhibition will run until the spring of 2021. About my book: I am not used to work with textiles so I chose to stick to paper as the base for this piece. The text, stitched in the thick handmade paper in the color of faded grass, is a poem dedicated to my ancestors, the women who have walked before me, about trails and traces that are long gone and overgrown. Nevertheless, it is easy to sense the old paths when walking in nature and terrain that may have changed little over centuries as in the Icelandic landscape. The poem is at the same time in honor of the land and my ancestress, who worked for the life of their descendants, spinning all threads of life.
