Verkalok: Í gær sendi ég af stað prentskjöl fyrir nýja myndabók. Loksins, loksins, er mér óhætt að segja, því ég hóf vinnu við verkefnið fyrir meira en tveimur árum. Útgáfan frestaðist af ýmsum orsökum en vonandi birtist gripurinn í bókabúðum í haust. Bókin heitir Sjáðu! og kemur út hjá Máli og menningu.

Þetta er harðspjaldabók fyrir allra yngstu börnin en hugmyndin var að ná til eldri barna líka, því oft eru bækurnar lesnar fyrir barnahóp eða systkini á mismunandi aldri. Íslenskar harðspjaldabækur eða bendibækur eru fremur sjaldgæfar og ég var því harla ánægð þegar útgefendur mínir samþykktu hugmyndina og ég gat vikið frá því bókarformi sem ég hef annars unnið með hingað til.

Þar til bókin kemur út ætla ekki að afhjúpa mikið meira en titilinn og svo nokkar myndir frá vinnuferlinu, skissur og dóterí. Næstu verkefni bíða og alltaf góð tilfinning að hreinsa borðið og byrja á nýju.

See! Yesterday I sent a new picturebook off to the printers. Finally, finally, I dare say, since I started working on the project more than two years ago! The publication was postponed for various reasons, but if all goes well my little book will appear in the bookstores in the autumn. This is a board book for the youngest children, but my idea was that it could appeal to a bit broader age group since picturebooks are often read to siblings and small groups of children of different age.

Icelandic board books are rather rare but we have huge stacks of toy books and translations of international board books as well as books with out words. I was therefore extremely happy when my publishers at Mál og Menning / Forlagið approved the project and I could deviate from the book format I have otherwise worked with so far.

I’m not going to reveal much more than the title “Sjáðu!” = “See!” and some snapshots from the working process. I am looking forward to clean my desk and make room for new projects. Yay!
