Vestnorræni dagurinn, dagur norrænu grannríkjanna í vestri: Íslands, Færeyja og Grænlands, er haldinn hátíðlegur ár hvert þann 23. september. Í ár var deginum m.a. fagnað í Norræna húsinu og Veröld – húsi Vigdísar. Þar tókum við tveir af höfundum bókaflokksins um skrímslin þátt í tveggja daga dagskrá.

Sunnudaginn 22. september vorum við Rakel Helmsdal með upplestur á færeysku og íslensku og vinnustofu fyrir börn og fjölskyldur þeirra í Norræna húsinu. Fjöldinn allur af skrímslavinum mætti og ný skrímsli litu dagsins ljós. Engin takmörk voru fyrir hugmyndafluginu og sköpunargleðinni og úr varð mikið fjör. Þarna voru líka augljóslega bókavinir á ferð því endalaust mátti lesa um ævintýri skrímslanna.

Mánudaginn 23. september bauð Norræna húsið, Vigdísarstofnun, Norræna félagið og Vestnorræna ráðið til málstofu í Veröld – húsi Vigdísar. Kynnt voru samvinnu- og rannsóknarverkefni með vestnorrænni áherslu, tengd tungumálum, sagfræði, þjóðfræði og bókmenntum og fleiru. Við Rakel fluttum þar eilítið erindi um samstarf okkar skrímslahöfundanna þriggja sem við nefndum: Skrímslabandalagið – um fjöltyngd skrímsli og skapandi samstarf. Takk fyrir okkur!

The West Nordic Day, September 23rd is the celebration day of the three neighbor countries in the west and is aimed to strengthen the cultural cooperation between the three: Iceland, Faroe Islands and Greenland. This year the day was celebrated with a two-day program: exhibitions, music, workshops for children and families and academic seminars. The program stretched over two days and we two (out of three) authors of the Monster series: were invited to take part.

On Sunday, September 22nd, Rakel Helmsdal and I gave readings in Icelandic and Faroese and had a workshop for children and families in the library of the Nordic house. Monster friends flocked to the event and we all had great fun with a bunch of new monsters. The children’s creativity had no limits, nor did their appetite for the stories about Little Monster, Big Monster and Furry Monster.

On Monday, September 23rd, a seminar was held in Veröld – the house of Vigdís, with lectures on language, ethnology, history and literature. We gave a talk and introduction on our monster creations, called: The Monster Alliance: on multilingual monsters and creative collaboration. Thank you all who participated in these events!
