Bóndadagur | The first day of Þorri

Föstudagsmyndin: Gleðilegan bóndadag og þorra! Illviðrin í janúar hafa yfirskyggt allt á nýja árinu og þessar myndir ríma vel við vetrarhörkuna og hroðann. Vonandi má blíðka náttúruöflin með tilheyrandi blótum og bættri hegðun. Rótgróin þráin eftir beinu sambandi við höfuðskepnurnar er aldrei skiljanlegri en á veturna þegar smæð okkar er augljós.

Photo Friday: We celebrate the first day of the month of Þorri today, the fourth winter month according to the old Norse Calendar. The first day of Þorri is called Bóndadagur „Farmer’s Day“ or „Husband’s Day“. The weather is harsh these months and it’s a good idea to show the forces of nature some respect while also enjoying good food. So feast if you can: three winter months ahead: Þorri, Góa, Einmánuður… There is no wonder our ancestors would like to have a word with the gods, especially in winter time.
