Litla skrímslið í Helsinki | Little Monster in Helsinki

♦ Bókahönnun. Litla skrímslið fer hamförum í Helsinki í september. Þá opnar sýningin „Everyday Discoveries“ og kápumynd fyrstu skrímslabókarinnar, Nei! sagði litla skrímslið, verður til sýnis í yfirstærð, ásamt margskonar hvunndagshönnun frá 23 löndum. Það má lesa um sýninguna hér. Sýningin er í Suvilahti, Helsinki, 6. -16. september 2012.

♦ Book design. Little monster will be screaming NO! in Helsinki. (Available in Finnish, it could scream: “Ei!”). I am invited to participate in a design exhibition, displaying the cover of “No! Said the Little Monster”.  Helsinki is World Design Capital 2012 and the exhibition is called “Everyday Discoveries“, in Suvilahti, Helsinki, 6. -16. September 2012. Here is what they say:

“Everyday Discoveries” is unique in its comprehensive presentation of international design. The exhibition will see more than 20 countries showcase their design, ideas and concepts as well as organise a number of different events. The exhibition’s underlying theme is day-to-day life – what is it like in the participating countries, and what kind of solutions to certain everyday situations have people come up with in the different countries?

“Everyday Discoveries” is produced by Design Forum Finland. Everyday Discoveries is a World Design Capital Signature Event.

Á bókamessu í Peking | BIBF

♦ Bókamessan í Peking. Á leið til Kína! Mér hefur verið boðið að taka þátt í norrænni málstofu á BIBF, alþjóðlegu bókamessunni í Peking í Kína. Málstofan nefnist: FROM FAIRYTALES TO APPS, E-BOOKS AND E-LEARNING – Seminar on Nordic Children’s Literature in the age of e-books and e-learning. Aðrir þáttakendur eru Åshild Kanstad Johnsen, teiknari og rithöfundur frá Noregi, Alexandra Borg, bókmenntafræðingur frá Svíþjóð, Karsten Pers, rithöfundur og útgefandi frá Danmörku og Paul Chen, framkvæmdastjóri Rovio í Kína. Málstofan fer fram 30. ágúst n.k. Auk þess að fjalla vítt og breitt um barnabækur og bókagerð segi ég frá samvinnunni við skrímslahöfundana Kalle Güettler og Rakel Helmsdal. Sex bækur um skrímslin tvö hafa verið þýddar á kínversku og þær koma væntanlega út í tæka tíð fyrir bókamessuna. Útgefandinn er Maitian Culture Ltd. í Tianjin.

♦ Book fair in Beijing. I have been invited to participate in a Nordic seminar on August 30, at Beijing International Book Fair. Other speakers at the seminar are Åshild Kanstad Johnsen, Norwegian artist, Alexandra Borg, Swedish scholar, Karsten Pers, Danish writer and publisher and Paul Chen, GM of Finnish Rovio. My lecture is called: For better or for worse – Sharing an idea and staying friends. Mostly about the collaboration with my monster-co-authors Kalle Güettler and Rakel Helmsdal but also about my work in general. Six books from The Monster Series are being published in chinese by Maitian Culture Ltd. and should be released just in time for the book fair.

Skrímsli í strengjum | Monster marionettes

♦ Puppet theater. Tomorrow is a big day for the two monsters in Faroe Islands. The marionette play Skrimslini will be premiered by Karavella Marionett Teatur. Scriptwriter, puppeteer and puppetmaker is Rakel Helmsdal, the Faroese co-author of the monster series. Tilkynnt var um verðlaunahafana á dögunum og hlaut Un grand monstre ne pleure pas þriðju verðlaun í flokki bóka fyrir yngstu börnin. Last month the prize was handed out for the 23rd time, were Un grand monstre ne pleure pas got the third prize in the category of books for the youngest readers: maternelle. The monster series is published by Circonflexe.

Skrímslin í leikhúsinu | The monsters in the theater

♦ Leikhús. Sýningum á Litla skrímslinu og stóra skrímslinu í leikhúsinu er að ljúka. Síðustu sýningar eru á morgun, sunnudag 6. maí, en sýnt hefur verið fyrir fullu húsi í Kúlunni, barnaleiksviði Þjóðleikhússins síðan í lok desember á síðasta ári. ♦ Monster theater. Last chance to see The Little Monster and the Big Monster in the Theater during this season. The last shows are tomorrow, on Sunday 6. of May in Kúlan, The National Theater’s childrens theater. More information about the play here and in the program here.

Skrímslakæti | The merry monsters

♦ Skrímslaþing! Það fer ágætlega á því að hefja fréttaskrifin á því að segja frá nýafstöðnu skrímslaþingi sem haldið var í Melasveitinni nýverið. Þar hittum við litla skrímslið og stóra skrímslið, höfundarnir þrír: Áslaug, Kalle Güettler frá Svíþjóð og Rakel Helmsdal frá Færeyjum. Nokkuð er umliðið frá síðustu vinnustofu, en von er á nýrri bók um skrímslin í haust og þetta voru því fagnaðarfundir. Litla skrímslið og stóra skrímslið tóku sér hlé frá leiksýningum í Þjóðleikhúsinu og höfðu sem fyrr frá mörgu að segja. Við höfðum ekki undan að festa frásagnir og myndir á blað. Það má því búast við fleiri ævintýralegum bókum um skrímslin tvö!

♦ Monster-meeting! I will start this blog with good news: We have just finished a successful workshop at my farm in Iceland, the three monster-authors: Áslaug, Kalle Güettler from Sweden and Rakel Helmsdal from the Faro Islands. We met the two monsters who took few days off from acting at The National Theater. The two monsters kept us busy with writing and drawing – there are still many stories to tell. The seventh book is to be released in the autumn in Iceland and it looks like there could still be more to come.
