Skrímslapest í Japan | Monster Flu in Japan

Skrímslafréttir! Myndabókin Skrímslapest kemur út í Japan í dag, 2. nóvember 2023, hjá forlaginu Yugi Shobou í Tokyo. Þýðandi er Shohei Akakura en þetta er þriðja bókin um skrímslin sem hann þýðir. Titillinn á japönsku er: かいぶつかぜ.

Monsternews! New title in Japanese! Skrímslapest (Monster Flu) will be released today, November 2nd 2023, by the Tokyo based publishers, Yugi Shobou. The book is is translated by Shohei Akakura with the title: かいぶつかぜ. 

Yugi Shobou has previously published two titles from the Monster series in 2022: Skrímsli í myrkrinu (Monsters in the Dark) , まっくらやみのかいぶつ, and Stór skrímsli gráta ekki (Big Monsters Don’t Cry) おおきいかいぶつは なかないぞ！

Skrímslin í Japan | More monsters in Japan

Skrímslafréttir! Forlagið Yugi Shobou í Tokyo gaf út á síðast ári tvo titla úr bókflokknum um skrímslin: Skrímsli í myrkrinu, まっくらやみのかいぶつ, og Stór skrímsli gráta ekki, おおきいかいぶつは なかないぞ.  Nú er þess að vænta að þriðja bókin í japanskri þýðingu, Skrímslapest, komi út á árinu 2023. Bækurnar eru um þessar mundir kynntar á sérstökum Íslandsdögum sem haldnir eru í einni af stóru úthverfaborgum Tokyo, Tama borg. Á dagskrá kennir ýmissa grasa, þar er bæði lamb og skyr, en sérstök bókamessa er haldin dagana 10. til 18. júní, í Maruzen, Cocoria Tama Center. Skrímslabækur, myndir og upplýsingar eru til sýnis í bókasafninu í Parthenon Tama Library Lounge, frá 7. júní til 26. júní.

Monsternews! The Tokyo based publishers, Yugi Shobou in Japan published two titles from the monsterseries in 2022: Skrímsli í myrkrinu (Monsters in the Dark) , まっくらやみのかいぶつ, and Stór skrímsli gráta ekki (Big Monsters Don’t Cry) おおきいかいぶつは なかないぞ！The third book Skrímslapest (Monster Flu) is to be released in 2023. 

The books are currently being presented at special ‘Iceland Days’ held in one of Tokyo’s large suburbs, Tama City. The program involves Icelandic culture, food and nature, but at one time there is a special book fair from June 10 to 18, at Maruzen, Cocoria Tama Center. Yugi Shobou will be presenting the Monster series with pictures and information in the library in the Parthenon Tama Library Lounge, from June 7th to June 26th.

Tama City was the host town of Iceland at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Tama City signed a memorandum of understanding on friendship and cooperation with the Embassy of Iceland in Japan, and in honor of Iceland’s Independence Day on June 17th, an event will be held where you can experience Iceland. 

According to our publishers in Japan, the books are well received by both children as adults, and we were granted permission to publish the photos and videos accompanying the story. Images © Yugi Shobou and photographers to the originals.

Forlagið Yugi Shobou gefur út og væntir þess að titillinn, まっくらやみのかいぶつ, komi út 1. desember. „Skrímsli í myrkrinu“ er önnur bókin úr bókaflokknum um skrímslin sem kemur út í Tokyo, en „Stór skrímsli gráta ekki“ kom út fyrr á árinu undir titlinum おおきいかいぶつは なかないぞ！Sjá nánar á heimasíðu hjá Yugi Shobou. Skrímslafréttir! Fyrir um ári var undirritaður samningur við lítið útgáfufyrirtæki í Tokyo um útgáfu á bókinni „Stór skrímsli gráta ekki“. Nú hefur forlagið Yugi Shobou kunngjört um útgáfudag, en þann 15. júlí kemur bókin út í Japan undir titlinum おおきいかいぶつは なかないぞ！Við skrímslahöfundar fögnum því að hinar ýmsu bækur úr bókaflokknum um skrímslin svörtu hafa nú brátt komið út á alls 19 tungumálum! Monsternews! We proudly announce a book release in Japan on July 15. Skrímslin á skjánum | Monster-zoom!

Skrímslaþing: Norræna skrímslabandalagið hittist á skjánum á dögunum en auðvitað nýtum við tæknina til fulls og virðum ströngustu sóttvarnir á tímum heimsfaraldurs. Þó það nú væri. Við fögnuðum góðum umsögnum um nýju bókina okkar, Skrímslaleik, og spáðum jafnvel aðeins í framtíðina … Litla skrímslið, stóra skrímslið og loðna skrímslið höfðu líka eitt og annað til málanna að leggja, en þau vilja umfram allt hafa nóg fyrir stafni og helst ekki gefa okkur höfundunum mikið frí. En allt hefur sinn tíma. Úr fjarlægari útlöndum er það svo helst að frétta að bókin Stór skrímsli gráta ekki er væntanleg á japönsku hjá litlu útgáfufélagi í Tokyo, Yugi Publishers. Þessi útgáfutíðindi komu m.a. fram í frétt hjá Miðstöð íslenskra bókmennta svo við erum ekki að ljóstra upp neinu leyndarmáli. Samningurinn var undirritaður í sumar, 2021. 

The monsters meet: The Nordic Monster Alliance had an online meeting this week. Of course we make use of all the available technology in the times of the pandemic when travels and gatherings are troublesome. We discussed and celebrated good reviews of our new book, Monster Act (Skrímslaleikur), and even tried to look a little bit ahead – into the future… could there be a chance for a meeting in the flesh? Little monster, Big monster and Furry monster also had some things to contribute, but above all they want action and activity and preferably not give us authors much time off. But everything has its time. From more distant lands, the news are out that our book Big Monsters Don’t Cry (Stór skrímsli gráta ekki) is to be translated and published in Japanese by a small publishing company in Tokyo, Yugi Publishers. This is stated in the news at the Icelandic Literature Center, so we are not revealing any secrets. We signed the agreement this summer, 2021.

Ný sögustund á norsku | Story time in Norwegian – Big Monsters Don’t Cry

Sögustund á norsku: Nýnorska menningarmiðstöðin fékk leyfi fyrir upplestri og myndbirtingu úr nokkrum bókum um litla skrímslið og stóra skrímslið og annar sögulestur hefur nú verið birtur á vef Nynorsk kultursenter. Í þetta sinn er það Stór skrímsli gráta ekki. Sjö bækur úr bókaflokknum um skrímslin hafa verið gefnar út hjá forlaginu Skald í norskri þýðingu Tove Bakke.

We granted the Neo-Norwegian Culture Center: Nynorsk kultursenter, permission to post readings and illustrations from a selection of books from the the monster series – the books about Little Monster and Big Monster. Seven books from the series have been published in Norwegian by Skald publishing house, translated by Tove Bakke. Skrímsli í sænskri lestrarbók | Läsresan – Monsters on a reading journey

Stór skrímsli gráta ekki – og allra síst þegar þau koma út í lestrarbók á sænsku. Pósturinn bankaði upp á og færði mér þessi höfundareintök á Degi barnabókarinnar fyrr í vikunni, sem var auðvitað skemmtilegt. Läsresan er metnaðarfull bók fyrir byrjendur í lestri, gefin út af skólabókaforlaginu Majema í Svíþjóð. Leyfi var veitt fyrir endurútgáfu á Stora monster gråter inte í heild sinni, en í dálítið breyttri uppsetningu í þessu safnriti sem inniheldur margar vinsælar bækur og bókarkafla, ásamt ítarefni.

Þess má geta að allar níu skrímslabækurnar eru fáanlegar á sænsku, því flestar hafa þær selst upp og verið endurútgefnar, nú síðast Skrímsli í heimsókn, Monsterbesök, sem var endurútgefin á síðasta ári, 2018.

Big Monsters Don’t Cry – and certainly not when they appear in a Swedish book for young readers and students, called Läsresan – The Reading Journey, published by Majema scholastic publishing in Sweden. The postman brought me these copies fresh from the press on the International Children’s Book Day, April 2nd. It’s a nice book full of carefully selected stories, and among them ‘Stora monster gråter inte‘. It is published in the anthology as a whole, although it had to be arranged a bit differently for this format.

For monster interested readers of the Swedish language it can also be pointed out that all the nine books from the Monster series are available in Swedish, since nearly all of them have been sold out and reprinted, most recently Monster Visit, Monsterbesök, in 2018.

Skrímslin á rússnesku | Little Monster and Big Monster go to Russia!

Skrímslin til Rússlands: Þau tíðindi eru nú að kvisast út að litla og stóra skrímslið séu á leið til Rússlands. Það er útgáfufyrirtækið Meshcheryakov Publishing House, sem í nóvember tryggði sér réttinn á þremur bókum um litla skrímslið og stóra skrímslið: Nei! sagði litla skrímslið, Stór skrímsli gráta ekki og Skrímsli í myrkrinu. Fyrir nokkrum árum höfðu sömu útgefendur sýnt bókunum áhuga á Bologna bókastefnunni, en talsverð gleði virðist ríkja um samninginn við Forlagið og höfundana. Tíðindi á rússnesku má lesa hér og hér og á FBsíðu útgáfunnar hér.

Bækurnar um litla skrímslið og stóra skrímslið eftir Áslaugu Jónsdóttur, Rakel Helmsdal og Kalle Güettler eru nú orðnar níu talsins. Þær hafa allar verið gefnar út í heimalöndum höfundanna: Íslandi, Færeyjum og Svíþjóð, en auk þess hafa sögurnar verið þýddar á fjölda tungumála: finnsku, norsku og nýnorsku, dönsku, frönsku, spænsku, kínversku, litháísku, basknesku, katalónsku, kastilísku, galisísku, tékknesku, lettnesku og arabísku – og nú innan tíðar eru titlar úr bókaflokknum væntanlegir á lettnesku og rússnesku.

Bækurnar um skrímslin hafa hlotið ýmsar viðurkenningar:
★ Skrímsli í vanda: Tilnefning til Íslensku bókmenntaverðlaunanna 2017 sem besta barna- og ungmennabókin.

Skrímslabækurnar á Spáni | Book release in Spain

Tveir titlar í bókaflokknum um litla skrímslið og stóra skrímslið komu út á dögunum hjá Sushi Books á Spáni. Það eru Skrímsli í myrkrinu og Skrímslapest á tveimur tungumálum: spænsku (kastilísku) og galisísku. Sushi Books er barnbókaútgáfa forlagsins Rinoceronte sem hefur áður þýtt og gefið út fyrstu tvo titlana, Nei! sagði litla skrímslið og Stór skrímsli gráta ekki. Fyrstu tveir titlarnir komu út á fjórum tungumálum árið 2014: kastilísku, galisísku, katalónsku og basknesku. GoiIrakuragaienMunstro2015♦ Bókadómar: Stór skrímsli gráta ekki  marsera með á árlegum úrvalslista bókasafna í Navarra á Spáni „DESFILE DE ALTA LECTURA“ 2015. Þar fær bókin ljómandi umsögn á spænsku (kastilísku) og basknesku sem ef til vill mætti þýða svo: „Vinalegu skrímslin, sem eru sköpun þessara norrænu höfunda, leyfa sér að fjalla um tilfinningar og líðan án nokkurs ótta. Parading along with other books in the catalog „DESFILE DE ALTA LECTURA“ 2015 is Big Monsters Don’t Cry, – in Basque: Munstro handiek ez dute negarrik egiten. The catalog is available here. Skrímslin á Spáni | Little Monster and Big Monster in Spain

♦ Þýðingar. Fyrstu bækurnar um skrímslin komu út á spænsku fyrir nokkrum árum hjá spænska Random House undir merkinu Beascoa. Útgefandi okkar þar yfirgaf forlagið skömmu síðar og í framhaldinu voru bækurnar í hálfgerðu munaðarleysi á Spáni og S-Ameríku, sem samningurinn tók einnig yfir. Nú hefur nýtt forlag, Sushi Books keypt útgáfuréttinn. Sushi Books er barnbókaútgáfa forlagsins Rinoceronte og gefur út bækur á fjórum helstu tungumálum spánverja. Fyrstu tvær sögurnar um skrímslin verða því brátt fáanlegar á spænsku (kastilísku), galisísku, katalónsku og basknesku. Skemmtilegt! Samkvæmt Fb-síðu Sushi Books mega lesendur eiga von á að kynnast litla skrímslinu strax í vor.

Í síðustu tveimur tölublöðum af Bookbird: a Journal of International Children’s Literature er að finna dóma um spænsku þýðingarnar af bókunum Nei! sagði litla skrímslið og Stór skrímsli gráta ekki. Í tímaritinu hefur áður birst bókadómur um skrímslin tvö og var þá Skrímsli á toppnum til umfjöllunar. Dómarnir um skrímslabækurnar þrjár eru á ensku og má lesa hér neðar á síðunni.

Bookbird er gefið út af IBBY, International Board on Books for Young People og Johns Hopkins University Press. Hér má finna eldri árganga tímaritsins, allt frá árinu 1963.

“Los monstruos grandes no lloran goes to the heart of childhood insecurities in competition with friends. The pressure felt by the character of the big monster, who feels inadequate whenever he plays with his friend the little monster, is the dual burden of being unable to measure up to his friend’s abilities coupled with the conviction that he must not reveal his feelings of inadequacy. When he is brought to the breaking point by the little monster’s laughter at the actions of his father, he finds out that his tears are an opening to discussing his real feelings with his friend. Not only does this prompt a deepening of the friendship, but also an opportunity for the little monster to share some of the things he admires about the big monster, and a chance for the big monster to teach skills he possesses.
